Galax White Pages Court Search
The Galax Circuit Court Clerk is the main spot for any court file lookup in the city. The office holds case records, land records, marriage licenses, wills, and probate files. Public access to records is open during normal business hours at the courthouse. Most case files are open under Virginia Code § 17.1-208, which says records held by clerks of courts of record are open to inspection.
Galax sits in the 27th Judicial Circuit alongside Carroll, Grayson, Wythe, Bland, and Pulaski counties. The city circuit court is part of the state CJISWeb tool. Galax Property and Land Records
The Galax Commissioner of the Revenue assesses real estate and personal property in the City of Galax. Assessment records and tax info are open to property owners and the public. The free public search lets you look up a parcel by address, owner name, or map and parcel number.
Each property card shows the owner of record, the mailing address, the lot size, and the most recent sale price. The work is required by Virginia Code § 58.1-3201, which says all real property must be assessed at 100% of fair market value. The data is open under Virginia Code § 58.1-3122.2.
For the deed image and chain of title, you go to the Galax Circuit Court Clerk. Recorded deeds must show the parcel ID on the first page under Virginia Code § 17.1-252. A Land Records Cover Sheet must come with the deed under Virginia Code § 17.1-227.1.

Galax Vital Records Lookup
Birth, death, marriage, and divorce records for Galax are kept by the Virginia Department of Health Office of Vital Records in Richmond. A copy of any vital record costs $12. The state office sits at 8701 Park Central Drive, Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23227. Walk ins are welcome Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Birth records become public 100 years after the date of the event. Death, marriage, and divorce records open to the public 25 years after the event. Before that, the records go only to immediate family. The Galax Circuit Court Clerk also issues marriage licenses for couples who plan to wed in the city.

Galax Voter and Elections White Pages
Voter rolls for Galax sit with the city general registrar and the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal. The Citizen Portal is the official site to check a voter record. You log in with your name, date of birth, and the last four of your social security number. The site shows your polling place, your status, and your voting history.

Galax Business and FOIA Records
The Virginia State Corporation Commission keeps the public record of every business entity in Galax. That covers corporations, LLCs, and partnerships that do business in the city. The CIS Online tool lets you pull a name to see its registered agent, filing date, and current status.
For records held by the city, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act controls. Found at Virginia Code § 2.2-3700, the law says all public records are open to the public. You do not need to give a reason. Galax has five working days to reply.
Common exemptions are listed in Virginia Code § 2.2-3705.1. Criminal investigative files have their own rules under Virginia Code § 2.2-3706. Juvenile records are sealed under Virginia Code § 16.1-301.
