York County White Pages Land Records

The York County-Poquoson Circuit Court Clerk Land Records page is the front door for any deed, judgment, or marriage record search. The Clerk runs the VA Deed Alert Notification Program, which sends an email when a document is recorded in the local land records that matches a name on your account. You can list up to 10 name variations. The search starts on the day you create the account and is not retroactive. The system does not block a filing. It just gives you notice after the fact so you can take legal action.

The Secure Remote Access (SRA) System is the paid online way to view land records. The fee is $50 per month per user. Sign up runs through risweb.vacourts.gov/jsra/sra. Payments are non-refundable. Each user needs an application and an agreement. Records run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, holidays included. SRA is set up under Virginia Code § 17.1-279(D)(1). Out of state firms must show they can do business in Virginia and are in good standing first.

The York County-Poquoson Index of Recorded Documents is the free public index for the local circuit court. Find York County-Poquoson under the Court Name column and pick the AVAILABLE tab. Do not click on Court Website. Review the terms and conditions, then accept. The FIPS and court code default to 199. Most records sit under the 199 section.

To run a search, pick "SEARCH ALL" under Instrument Group, fill in the fields you want, then select SEARCH. The index is hosted on the Virginia Courts public records portal. The York County Freedom of Information Act page is the main door for any public record request. York County provides links to request forms, fee schedules, and rights and responsibilities documents. Requests can be sent by U.S. Mail, fax, email, in person, or over the phone under Virginia Code § 2.2-3700. FOIA does not require a specific format. Written requests are helpful for clarity. The request must identify records with reasonable specificity. FOIA gives you a right to inspect or copy existing records. It does not require the office to answer questions or create new records.

The Sheriff's Office must respond within five working days. Day one is the day after the request is received. The five day window does not include weekends or holidays. Possible replies include providing the records, citing a specific exemption, redacting and providing the rest, or stating in writing that it is impossible to reply in five days. In that case, an extra seven working days is allowed for 12 in total. For criminal investigative files under Virginia Code § 2.2-3706.1, an extra 60 working days is allowed.

Note: Effective July 1, 2022, the release of criminal incident files is discretionary in Virginia, and crime victims have 14 days to petition the court to block release.

York County Real Estate Assessment Lookup

The York County Real Estate Assessment Office appraises and assesses all real property in York County on a biennial basis, effective January 1 on even years. The current reassessment covers January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027. As part of the 2026 reassessment, staff are reviewing sales, updating photos, and reviewing prior building permits. Appraisers wear employee badges and drive marked county vehicles when they visit a site.

Property owners get a proposed notice in early January. Owners may talk with the appraiser, review the home's data, and discuss market data. Formal appeals can be sent to the Board of Equalization through an online form by February 27, 2026. Assessments must follow Virginia Code § 58.1-3201, which says all property must be assessed at 100% of fair market value and be equitable across property classes. Sales from the two prior calendar years are used to set fair market value.

York County Property GIS Search

The York CivQuest GIS portal is the county's interactive property and mapping tool. You can search by GPIN (Geographic Parcel Identification Number), account number, owner name, or street address. The portal displays parcel boundaries, zoning, flood zones, aerial imagery, and assessment info. The system is built on ArcGIS Experience Builder. Public access is open and no login is needed for searches.

Assessment data on the GIS site updates with each biennial reassessment cycle. The 2026 reassessment is the most recent cycle. Each deed must include the parcel ID number on page one under Virginia Code § 17.1-252 and a Land Records Cover Sheet under Virginia Code § 17.1-227.1. The Clerk's office will not knowingly accept a paper that includes a social security number.

Common FOIA exemptions sit at Virginia Code § 2.2-3705.1. They cover personnel files, attorney work product, and contract data before an award. Juvenile records are sealed under Virginia Code § 16.1-301 and are only open to law enforcement and court staff.
